How Body Mistakes Hunger for Thirst
We all know that thirst occurs when our body needs water.
But did you know that when you do not drink enough water,
your body receives "mixed signals" on hunger? Apparently,
dehydration causes you to believe you need to eat when you
really need liquid intake. In this volume, we will discuss
about chronic dehydration, in which the body mistakes
hunger for thirst!
What is Chronic Dehydration?
Chronic Dehydration refers to a state where the body lacks 1 to 2 % of water for over 3 months. This is not considered a disease, but when neglected, this can increase the risk for obesity and decreases body functions. According to the experts, chronic dehydration occurs to people who drink coffee or tea often, and drink less than 1.6 to 2 liters of water-the recommended amount-per day. This is common for Korean females aged 10 to 40, many of whom prefer beverages instead of water.
Self Diagnosis? Symptoms of Dehydration
Here are some of the symptoms of dehydration: THIRST, constipation, dry skin, dizziness, dry eyes and decreased urine output. If you have one of those symptoms, you should check the amount of water you drink every day compared to other beverages like coffee or tea. If chronic dehydration continues for months, your body will mistake thirst for hunger, thereby making you eat more whenever the body needs water. This situation can be serious, as you may be obese or overweight without even noticing. (* Symptoms of diabetes include dehydration) Making matter serious, when the body is "used to" dehydration; it won't give signals even if you feel thirsty.
Treatment: Eat < Drink Water!
As you may have assumed, water is the best answer for dehydration as it can easily quench thirst. A clean, Antioxidant Alkaline water helps you not only feel better and fresher, but helps your body function normally and fight and/or prevent diseases. Moreover, water is the best (and the cheapest!) way to lose weight. It is scientifically proven that you will eat less when you have adequate dehydration. Without further explanation, drinking more than 8 glasses (2 liters) of water a day will help prevent dehydration and make you fit and healthy!
Do you often feel hungry? Before you grab something, think if you had enough water for the day. It might not be hunger, but thirst.
