Winter is finally here! The weather seemed pretty fickle for last couple of days but finally, it snowed in New York yesterday for the first time in 2014. Personally, winter is not my favorite season of the year, as it is not good for skin. Every time I wash my face, I can feel that the dry air steals moisture away from the skin in just a few seconds. Without immediate care, dry skin can lead to cracking and (in extreme cases) bleeding, and harsh winter wind makes the problem worse.


I've already used one pack of my moisture (hydrating) cream. Is there any natural way to reduce chapping, redness, and itching of my skin, and instead keep my skin more healthy and comfortable in winter? Here are some tips that might help.





  • Wash in Lukewarm Water: Hot showers and baths always feel good in the winter, but when you can, particularly when just washing your face or hands, choose lukewarm water to avoid stripping as many oils away from the skin. Also, using Biocera Atozero Happy Showerhead, which is effective in removing chlorine, will help you give soft, healthier skin.
  • Moisturize Immediately AfterwardsYour skin not only needs more moisture, but moisture right after you wash. Applying moisture to damp skin helps seal that dampness into the skin. Keep a bottle near the bathtub, shower stall, and at every sink and use liberally every time you wash.

  • Eat and Drink (Hydrate from the Inside Out): Eating foods high in water content can help hydrate your skin from the inside out. Try watermelon, cantaloupe, apples, oranges, kiwi, and watery veggies like celery, tomatoes, cucumbers, and carrots. Make sure you're getting enough vitamin C and zinc to support the healthy production of collagen and elastin. However, more importantly, you should intentionally drink water. We tend to drink less water in the winter because we turn to hot drinks like cocoa and tea, but don't forget that your skin needs hydration from the inside, out. It is better to drink clean water frequently, than drinking a lot at once.  
  • Humidify Both Air and Skin: Heating systems dry out the air, so consider installing a humidifier like in your home, particularly in your bedroom, to put moisture back into the air and help prevent your skin from drying out.
